Many years ago, an Austrian visitor to the Drakensberg taught a young John Mtateni Xosa how to yodel. The skills he learnt at the top of Cathedral Peak that day stood John Xosa in good stead – and surprised many parties of visitors - in his work as a guide for Cathedral Peak Hotel, a position he held for close on 40 years.

John Xosa died peacefully in his sleep recently aged 88 at his home near Royal Natal National Park.
