Guitar wiz Dan Patlansky is an incongruous package – oozing rock star sex appeal, he smashes stereotypes – not your average blues guitarist and not your average ambassador for Durban either – but he is both and more. He returns to perform at the Catalina Theatre from August 22.

He also comes to the Catalina bearing gifts – a whole album full of great new original tunes from his soon-to-be-released third album: Real. However, he will not be ignoring his by-now signature tunes from his earlier albums – True Blues (2004) and Dan Patlansky and the Missippi Muthers – Standing at the Station (2000).

“Real is a self-produced, independent release ‘cos I really wanted to record my new album the way I wanted to - I did not want to be persuaded to be too commercial,” says Dan Patlansky. “Constructive feedback from my previous album, True Blues, was that it was not completely representative of our performance on stage. In contrast, Real has been recorded live so it has a very nice and natural feel to it. You get a more authentic experience – mistakes and all!”

Dan Patlansky performs at Catalina Theatre on Wilson’s Wharf from August 22 to 26. Shows nightly at 20h00 (Sunday at 18h00). Bookings or more information on 031 305 6889.
