NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The Durban Hilton’s Rivets bar is the place to be on Thursday nights if you’re a lover of quality live jazz. The current season which runs until May is sponsored by Johnny Walker Black and includes a number of exciting new local bands as well special jazz visitors: March 9: Pat Matshikiza Quartet – seasoned Johannesburg based pianist teams up with home boys. March 16: Iva performs afro-funk as well as SA jazz standards. March 23: Brian Thusi, another internationally acclaimed performer and teacher, delivers quality jazz in all styles with his quartet of fine musicians. March 30: Popular Durban jazz personalities, the Johnny Williams Sextet, play songs from the Swing era. The bands play from 19h45 to 22h45 and all are welcome although it is necessary to remember that the Durban Hilton has a strict dress code and that smart casual is required.
