NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The Durban Men’s Choir is to hold an Open Day on February 6 at 17h30 for all prospective new members. This is an opportunity to become a member of one of Durban’s best known institutions which has been around for more than 30 years, has recorded numerous CD’s (including one to be released next month) and has won acclaim both locally and abroad. The evening will be informal and in a relaxed atmosphere during which the choir will go through a typical practice session with visitors encouraged to mingle with the choir as they go through their routine. At a certain time of the evening, any visitors who wish to join the choir will be interviewed by the musical director and tested to see what voice group they will fit into. It is not necessary for members to be able to read music, but this ability does assist in learning new songs. More information from Gus Brecher on 082 892 9334 or Peter Grobler on 083 252 6235. Or simply arrive at the practice venue at the Umbilo Methodist Church in Bartle Road (between Francois and Queen Mary) at 17h30 on February 6.
