Based in Durban, Africapella is an all male multi-cultural a-capella group and several of the members write and perform their own material. The group sings a few covers as well, although the arrangements are usually very different. The genres span from R&B through afro-jazz, swing, traditional, gospel, rock, and soon “kwaitopella”.

Africapella has performed at numerous Durban venues and appeared at the Rustlers Valley Equinox festival. They hope to be at the Harare International festival of art in April as well as the Chimanimani Music Fest and are looking for sponsors (Zimbabwe Sun has already pledged accommodation!). The group was formed in March 1999 and met through the assistance of Durban Youth Radio. It has received other sponsorship such as shirts from New Horizons, recording studio fees from Club Diamond 10 and a set of African drums and percussion from Shell Chemicals.

Members of the group are Lucky Magubane, Xolani N Mbambo, Senzo Majola, Nathi Gcabashe, Andile Maqoma, Sanele Mzinyane, Sam Makhathini and Richard Yell.
