Following last year's successful collaboration between the Northern KZN Youth Choir under William Silk and the soloists and chorus of the Opera Studio and Choral Academy at UKZN under Prof David Smith, another joint concert by the two ensembles will be presented at the UKZN Jubilee Centre Theatre on May 27.

Choirs In Concert features both vocal soloists and choral items in a range of styles and moods. The programme will appeal to a broad range of listeners.

The NKZN choir, which has toured widely, will perform a mixture of sacred, indigenous and popular items from its extensive repertoire. The UKZN Opera Ensemble brings its own brand of singing to the event, presenting talented soloists Zenneth Cibane, Ntobeko Gecelo and Bulelani Madizela who are known from their appearances with the KZNPO and Baroque 2000.

Durban audiences familiar with the work of the Opera Studio and Choral Academy at the University can expect enjoyable music from operas by Donizetti, Verdi, Bellini, Mozart and others. The choirs will be accompanied by Andrew Warburton and Anna Robson at the piano.

Choirs In Concert takes place at 19h30 on May 27. Tickets are available at the door but they can be reserved in advance by phoning Maggie Reddy on 031 260 1672. Tickets R40 (R15 concessions). Secure parking is available in the student car park behind the OSCA building.
