NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The Stables Lifestyle Market off Umgeni Road, hosts a weekly interactive drum circle for all levels on Sundays from 17h30, including an introductory lesson. Visitors and non-drummers welcome. The participation fee is R10 and those wishing to hire a drum can do so at a cost of R10. A cash bar and light refreshments are available and there is a car guard on duty. The African Drumshack offers “a melting pot of musical ingenuity, a minstrels’ meeting place, with a magical collection of percussive paraphernalia”! There is also an excellent range of drums on sale from West African Djembes and Turkish Darbouka to African Bass Drums, Kapalego Drums and percussion instruments. The organisation also undertakes quality repairs to Djembes, Congas, Tabla, Ngoma, Tambourines and Banjo's. Private tuition and consultations are available.
