Jazz Gigs take place on Thursdays at 20h30 at Rivets Jazz Club at the Durban Hilton.

October 6: De Nazaten. In association with Awesome Africa Rivets Jazz Club presents De Nazeten, an exciting seven-piece group from Holland. De Nazaten echoes the music of the European harmony and fanfare bands and the repertoire stems from the many forms of world/wind music, in which improvisation and dansability prevail!

October 13: Philani Ngidi Quartet. Durban’s finest electric bass player is known for his sensitivity and musicality when playing as part of the rhythm section. When placed in the limelight he delivers fine jazz with great originality; his playing is sincere and driven by his passion for good music. He will be joined by Neil Gonsalves on keyboards and Bruce Baker on drums.

October 20: Sabelo Masondo & Friends. The young bass player links up with pianist Ndu Makhatini and drummer Ayanda Sikade to form a band that gives a personal inter-pretation of standards. The group will also play a fusion of Afro-Jazz and soul.

October 27: Drummer Lebohung Mathabeng has long since confirmed his reputation for versatility as he moves easily between soft brush work when accompanying singers to the robust sounds required by jazz driven African rhythms. He will be joined by his regular pianist Bonani Mambi and local session musicians to create a jazz evening that simmers and steams!
