BBC Prime on DStv is to present I Knew John Lennon from September 24 at 21h30.

The year 2000 marked an array of remarkable anniversaries relating to the life and death of John Lennon; 20 years since his murder, 30 years since the Beatles split up, and 40 years since the Beatles started.

This programme celebrates the private man who is not widely known, through rare archive footage and stills, and interviews with early band member Pete Best and former manager Allan Williams, along with a host of friends and fellow musicians who knew Lennon as a schoolboy, art student and budding musician.
