The Playhouse Company invites all children who are vibrant and confident, and have a strong singing talent with a minimum requirement of some previous acting and dancing experience, to audition for its upcoming musical theatre production of The Sound of Music.

This all new staging will be directed by Ralph Lawson, and children will sing to the live accompaniment of the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra. Successful applicants will be required for rehearsals in Durban, and they must be available from November 1, 2005. The season will run throughout December 2005.

Various roles to be cast include: Rolf, a dashing young man aged 17 years, and the von Trapp children (Liesl 16 years, Friedrich 13 years, Louisa 12 years, Kurt 10 years, Brigitta 9 years, Marta 7 years and Gretl 5 years).

A general audition will start at 11h00 and continue until approximately 15h00 at The Playhouse, on July 17. Auditionees must arrive early at the Stage door entrance in Acutt Street.

All children are required to sing and to prepare a short monologue (memorised text) of no more than two minutes. The song must be from any musical of their choice. A full-length photograph must be provided at the audition. Failure to comply with the requirements may result in auditionees being turned away.
