NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Presented by Big Concerts in association with SABC2 and East Coast Radio, Mamma Mia! is due to run in Durban from March 25 to 31 at the International Convention Centre, Durban but most of the tickets are sold out. Due to the overwhelming demand for tickets, therefore, five additional shows have been added to the Durban leg of the tour. These will take place on April 1 at 17h30 and 21h00, April 2 at 17h30 and 21h00 and April 3 at 15h00. Based on the songs of ABBA, the smash hit musical is a sunny, funny tale of family and friendship that unfolds on a tiny Greek island. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. The themes have a universal resonance. There’s a mother-daughter relationship; an old romance; there’s “losing someone and finding them again”. It’s a show about real people in real situations, with a great pop score that provided the soundtrack for a generation in the ’70s and early ’80s. Tickets are available from Computicket on www.computicket.com or 083 915 8000. For more information on Mamma Mia go to www.mammamia.com
