NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal hosts a special programme on March 16 which features the Milton Academy Jazz Combo from Boston, USA and the Sinikithemba Choir from McCords Hospital here in Durban. The event will be sponsored by HIV Negative which raises funds for relevant aids related groups and charities. HIV Negative was founded by an Austrian pop-star and philanthropist known as "Qenzo" and is very proud to present the Sinikithemba Choir members who are all HIV positive and have been touring extensively here and overseas. They will perform some of their own songs as well as sing with the jazz band that has had a long time association with the Jazz Centre. For several years the Milton Academy has brought its top jazz students to play and interact with students and musicians here and this year the double show promises to be both different and worth supporting. The show starts at 17h15 and tickets are R20 (R5 for students). More information from Glynis on 031 260-3385. The popular cash bar will be open and there is plenty of parking.
