Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II will be in Durban to open the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting on November 12 and KZN’s popular Drakensberg Boys’ Choir will sing at the welcoming ceremony.

The DBC recently returned from their first tour of Scandinavia as well as a visit to Turkey where they donated their concert income to the earthquake victims. A street concert held in Ismet, a town on the outskirts of Istanbul, brought a temporary but welcome distraction to the suffering and distressing circumstances after the disaster.

The choir begins its national tour shortly with their Christmas show, Noël 99 – “Follow That Star”. The programme takes in Welkom (November 29), Kimberley (November 30), Johannesburg (December 1) and Witbank (December 3). Performances in KZN take place at The Abbey, Vryheid (December 4); City Hall, Pietermaritzburg (December 6) and Durban Light Infantry Hall, Durban (December 7). There will be three performances in the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School Auditorium on December 8, 9 and 10. All performances take place at 19h30 except for December 8 when the show will be at 15h30.
