The Durban Men's Choir, sponsored by the National Arts Council, presents a gala performance in honour of choirmaster Dr John Pauw, who will shortly retire (see Anthea Johnston’s music column in this section). Conductor of the choir since its 1971 inception, John Pauw is well-known for his extensive contribution to Durban's musical culture and has received both civic and Rotary awards for his dedicated work in promoting and developing choral talent.

The 30-strong choir draws its members from a wide range of ages, backgrounds and walks of life, but share a great love of music and a strong wish to spread the pleasure and goodwill that music inspires. Its extensive repertoire ranges from classical, folk and sacred music, to popular show tunes, all sung in their original languages. The concert will comprise highlights from the past 28 years, including favourites like Lady in Red, Tears in Heaven and Land of Hope and Glory. The concert takes place in the Playhouse Drama Theatre on November 5 at 19h00 for 19h30.
