Acclaimed by critics as one of Europe's leading chamber music ensembles, the Trio Bamberg, consisting of three outstanding soloists, Robert Benz (piano), Yevgenyi Schuk (violin) and Stephan Gerlinghaus (cello), will give one performance in Durban during their brief South African tour.

Professor Robert Benz, winner of the International Busoni Competition and the International Liszt-Bartok Competition, has been hailed for many years as one of Germany's finest pianists. Russian violinist Yevgenvy Schuk was the leader of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 23 and now holds the same position with the State Opera Orchestra in Stuttgart. The third member of the Trio, cellist Stephan Gerlinghaus from Bamberg, is a prizewinner of several competitions and formerly solo cellist with the German Chamber Academy.

The Trio has now made five CD's of which one, featuring the Piano Trios of Schinittke and Shostakovich, was awarded the "German Critic's Prize". The Trio Bamberg's South African tour has been made possible with the financial assistance of the Goethe Institute in Johannesburg.

The Trio Bamberg recital takes place on September 24 at 19h30 at Howard College Theatre, UKZN. They will perform works by Beethoven, Schnittke and Shostakovich.
