NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. I Love A Piano is a gala evening to celebrate Hilton College’s acquisition of a new and magnificent Yamaha concert grand piano. The first half of the programme, artistically directed by the Hilton College Music Department, features the Hilton College Chamber and Concert Choirs, Stage Band and Brass Ensemble, as well as solo performances by Director of Music Paul Zuilenberg on trumpet, and accomplished pianist Albie Odendaal. The programme’s second half, artistically directed by Christopher Duigan (Music Revival), features renowned concert pianists Christopher Duigan and Andrew Warburton, and a well-known local jazz pianist. These outstanding KZN pianists explore the possibilities of what a piano can do. Each pianist has been invited to compile a programme which includes guest artistes and explores the many possibilities of music around the piano. This promises to be a fascinating experience considering that the piano is an instrument that has inspired much of the world’s most magnificent music in the fields of classical, pop and jazz. I Love A Piano takes place on September 3 at 19h30. Tickets R30. Bookings on 033 383 0126.
