NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. An eventful programme of baroque music led by visiting Pietermaritzburg-born cellist Nigel Fish will take place on August 1 at the Church of the Ascension in Hilton. Now living in Germany, Nigel Fish is joined by four local and visiting international musicians who play a fascinating selection of Baroque music by seldom performed composers: Telemann, Frescaboldi, Froberger, Castillo and English composer Matthew Locke. The varied selection is performed on various combinations of recorders, violin, viola da gamba, cello and harpsichord. The performers are Melitta Wolf (recorders); Jitske Brien (violin); Colleen Oxtoby (Viola da gamba); Nigel Fish (Violoncello), and Johannes Poth (Harpsichord). The programme lasts 120 minutes including interval and begins at 15h00 on August 1. The Church Of The Ascension is situated in Hilton in Church Lane, near Quarry Centre and parking is off Brindy Road, off Hilton Avenue. Tickets R40. Refreshments are available. Bookings through Music Revival on 033 342-3051 or e-mail chris@musicrevival.co.za
