NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Great news for music lovers is that the nationally acclaimed period ensemble Baroque 2000 is back on track with sponsorship for a series of eight concerts at St Thomas’ Church, Musgrave. The group suffered a major blow last year when the National Arts Council failed to renew funding for this outstanding group of professional musicians. However, thanks to the staunch support of Baroque 2000’s most generous patrons they are set to open the 2004 season with the quirky title Baroque is Bach. This all-Bach programme will include such masterpieces as the Suite No. 4 in D, the D minor concerto for Violin and Oboe featuring Darragh Morgan (violin) and David Lloyd (Oboe) and a special appearance by the renowned cellist, Robin Michael. Generously sponsored by Friends of Music, he will perform the second concerto in Bb by CPE Bach. The concert will take place at 11h15 on March 28 at St Thomas’ Church, Musgrave Road. Tickets R50 available at the door or alternatively, book a reserved seat at Computicket. Subscriptions available at R350 reserves music-lovers a seat for the season as well as one free concert!
