The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra performed the first five movements of a Mass written by local composer Qinisela Sibisi for the first time at a "New Music" Workshop held at the Playhouse last week.

The workshop was part of the KZN Philharmonic's comprehensive Education and Development programme, which seeks to identify and nurture local talents and skills. Qinisela Sibisi, a BMus graduate of the University of Zululand and a gifted composer, has been working on the Mass for over three years under the guidance of the KZN Philharmonic.

Chief Executive & Artistic Director of the KZN Philharmonic, Bongani Tembe, said, "It is indeed our responsibility to utilise our resources to assist emerging local composers in developing their talents, and to then provide them with the opportunity to have their work played by a professional orchestra."
