Well-known Durban arts publicist and journalist William Charlton-Perkins was called onto the stage at the recent concert presented in Durban by four of South Africa’s leading concert pianists - Lara Jones, Andrew Warburton, Benjamin Fourie and Christopher Duigan.

Presented by Music Revival and Durban’s Friends of Music, the concert raised approximately R7,500 for the establishment of a classical piano scholarship at the University of Natal Durban’s Music School.

The pianists had decided to acknowledge William for his tireless efforts in working behind the scenes to promote classical music to audiences in Durban. William has acted as a publicist for the KZN Philharmonic and Friends of Music.

Christopher Duigan, who heads Music Revival, stated: “William has given so generously and willingly of his energy and expertise. For many years he has been instrumental in insuring the media visibility of classical music in Durban. The passion that William has for classical music is an inspiration to all who work with him.

“His handling of the publicity in Durban for Music Revival has ensured the outstanding media coverage of, amongst others, the popular Kerimov Trio and has ensured the success that Music Revival has achieved in recent years.”
