The Durban Arts Association and Indlela Community Trust will present Voices Africa, a monthly poetry recital programme due to take place every second Friday of the month at the Playhouse A1 from October.

The aim of the programme is to give a platform for new and as-yet unestablished poets in Kwa Zulu Natal in order for them to gain insight into the poets and poems of South Africa. Voices Africa will also work alongside already-established poetry programmes such as Poetry Africa and popular institutions.

A compilation book entitled Voices Africa will be produced at the end of the project and the work of each poet taking part in the finals will be published in the book. An established guest poet will be invited to each session to analyse and crit each poet as a further developmental benefit. The audience will choose the best poet, judged on various categories after each session. The poet judged best per session will qualify to attend the final poetry competition.

Durban Arts Association and Indlela Community Trust acknowledge the kind support of the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund and Ethekwini Municipality.
