NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The Best Female Artist Category in this year’s Standard Bank South African Music Awards 9 (SAMA 9) is truly representative of some of the popular music genres in South Africa. The six finalists' in this category are Tu Nokwe for her album African Child, Deborah Fraser for her album Udlalile Ngabantu, Rebecca Malope for her album Iyahamba Lenqola, Sibongile Khumalo for her album Quest, KB (Keabetswe Motsilanyane) for her album Beautiful Vibrations, and Gloria Bosman for her album Stop and Think. In the jazz genre are Gloria Bosman and Sibongile Khumalo, with Tu's album adding the African-jazz touch. South Africa's leading gospel vocalists, Deborah Fraser and Rebecca Malope, are representative of the gospel genre, while newcomer KB adds flavour with a taste of R & B. Members of the public can cast their votes for Song of the Year and Artist of the Year on 0860 001 232 or www.sama9.co.za. Tickets for the event are on sale at Computicket. Look out for more information on the Standard Bank SAMA 9 Awards Ceremony taking place on April 05 at The Superbowl, Sun City. SABC will once again broadcast the event live on SABC 1 on the night of the event.
