The music department at the University of Natal, Durban, presents regular free lunch-hour concerts in Howard College Theatre at 12h15. On September 6, Feya Faku and Friends play Feya's own compositions from his new CD Hommage which was recently launched in Holland.

Trumpeter Fezile "Feya" Faku completed the University Diploma in Music Performance (Jazz) in 1992 at UND. He has worked with the late Duke Makasi and the Soul Jazzmen, and toured the USA and Germany with Darius Brubeck and the NU Jazz Connection, recording the CD African Tributes with them. He also performed with Chris Merz and Counterculture, who released the CD Art Gecko (B&W), as well as Pat Matshikiza, Barney Rachabane, Basil Coetzee and Winston "Mankunku" Ngozi, with whom he has recently spent two years touring South Africa, Namibia and Sweden.

Feya also works with Abdullah Ibrahim, and is featured in Abdullah's latest CD Made in South Africa which was launched into the South African market in 1998. He has recently completed a CD for the Mahube project which toured Europe in 1997 and formed part of the Standard Bank National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in 1998.
