The Arts & Culture Trust Awards 2002 are presented in association with Mail & Guardian and Nedbank. It has just been announced that the Durban based Field Band Foundation has won the ACT Award for Best Practice Project of the Year sponsored by the Arts & Culture Trust.

The Field Band Foundation is a socio-cultural national programme that offers disadvantaged youngsters access to basic music and dance skills. It has touched lives of youngsters and changed communities. The programme provides youths with the opportunity - through music - to foster a purpose to life and new horizons. The greatest achievement of this project has not been providing an opportunity to re-channel pent-up energies and frustrations, but rather to make youngsters realise their potential through competition against their counterparts from around the globe.
