Rainbow Jazz Club, in association with Castle Milk Stout, will present the Melvin Peters Quartet in concert on July 28 at the club in 23 Stanfield Lane, Pinetown.

“In June we hosted an epic concert presented by one of KZN's most successful musicians, Jabu Khanyile,” says Rainbow Jazz Club owner Neil Comfort. “To help with the recovery process (we partied too hard) we have decided to tone things down with a show featuring a true son of the Rainbow, pianist Melvin Peters.”

Melvin made his first appearance on the Rainbow stage in 1983 in a line-up that featured fellow music students Marc Duby and Kevin Gibson. Since then he has been a regular performer at the Rainbow. For this concert he will be joined by Jeff Robinson on alto saxophone, Bongani Sokhela on bass guitar and Shaun Petersen on drums.

As a quartet, the group performs a wide range of music, including standards from the mainstream jazz repertoire as well as Latin-American and European influenced jazz. In addition, their program incorporates original compositions from Jeff and Melvin. Recently they have tended to focus more on the South African jazz tradition, most notably the music of Abdullah Ibrahim.

Doors open at 12h00 and the show starts at 13h00. Tickets R20 at the door. More information on 031 702-9161 or 083 463-8044.
