The Alliance Française of Pietermaritzburg will host a musical evening of international soloists at the Tatham Art Gallery, on April 22 at 19h00.

Known as the "High Priest of the Bassoon", Canadian virtuoso George Zukerman has been credited with single-handedly elevating his instrument from the back ranks of the Symphony Orchestra to the honoured position of soloist.

He has 36 European tours to his credit as well as several recordings and he appears regularly in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the former Soviet Union. His performances are interspersed with entertaining and informative descriptions both of the music and the instrument. His ready wit, humour and charismatic personality delight critics and public alike.

He will be accompanied by pianist Virginia Fortescue. Now living in Normandy in France, she will be remembered by music lovers for her many appearances in SABC broadcasts of concertos and chamber music concerts.

Tickets R20 available at the door but due to limited seating, reservations should be made to avoid disappointment. Contact Dr Dean Goldring on 031 260-5466.
