The Alliance Française organisation is to host Erik Truffaz Quartet in concert.

French trumpeter-composer and already legendary player Erik Truffaz will tour South African and Mozambican Alliances Françaises in March 2002 with his new band, Erik Truffaz Ladyland Quartet.

This ensemble will feature guitarist Manu Codjia, bass player Michel Benitta and percussionist Philippe Garcia. They will present Mantis, the latest and fourth Erik Truffaz album released on Blue Note label in France in November last year.

Truffaz is a forward-looking musician. His combination of classic jazz and contemporary grooves (hip hop, drum 'n' bass, electro acoustic) come together to fine rhythmic effect. While still acknowledging a jazz past, he is obviously eager to explore new musical horizons.

Concerts (dates to be announced) will be held at Alliance Française premises in Pretoria, Port-Elizabeth and Durban as well as during the North Sea Jazz Festival in Cape Town.
