For their final concert of the year 2001, Friends of Music will host popular baroque ensemble Baroque 2000 on December 20 at 19h45 at the Durban Jewish Club in Old Fort Road, Durban. Baroque 2000 will perform orchestral works and the famous Corelli Christmas Concerto (Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No.8)

Featured as the Prelude Performer for this concert will be pianist and teacher Derrick Nikwe who can be seen playing in Musgrave Centre every Saturday morning from 10h00 to 14h00. He also appears at Sanlam Centre in Pinetown until December 24.

Derrick Nikwe started playing the piano in 1990. He studied classical music with Kim Siedle and although his repertoire is mainly classical, he enjoys rhythm and blues and some jazz numbers. Playing several light classics and popular numbers, he represents the first performer in this exciting new project which sees talented musicians making a ten minute appearance before the featured artist or group of the evening. This project has been made possible through funding from the National Lottery.

The Durban Jewish Club is air-conditioned, there is a cash bar and safe parking is available. Book at Computicket.
