Cross culture music is always fascinating but An Evening of Bhajans offers an opportunity to see brilliant musician Patrick Ngcobo in this programme of classical Indian music which takes place in the Playhouse Studio on August 27 and 28 at 19h30. After a troubled childhood, Patrick Ngcobo found comfort in classical Indian music and first began singing in 1988. Just three years later, he was given the opportunity to perform with Dr KJ Yesudas during the South African tour of this world-renowned South Indian Karnatic master. Dr Yesudas was so impressed that he invited Patrick to return to Indian to study under him. During his two and a half years in Madras, the musician not only developed his musical skills but gained the discipline, determination, dedication and patience that allowed him to blossom and flourish musically. Speaking English, Zulu, Hindi and Tamil, Patrick sings in eight Indian languages and has scooped local and international awards. Appearing with him in An Evening of Bhajans will be graduate of Indian percussion Pregalathan Singaram who has toured extensively and appeared in numerous SABC TV productions as well as Poovandren Parasaremen Pillay, a respected exponent of the violin.
