NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Flamboyant, wildly camp, over-the-top and outrageous - all these things he may be, but singer and songwriter Nataniël has a certain charm and charisma that captures the public’s imagination. How much is real and how much is `put on’? That is the enigma of this talented entertainer that makes him so popular. Durban audiences can judge for themselves when Nataniël makes his first public appearance in Durban in more than 10 years when he appears on September 3 (20h30) and September 4 (18h00 and 20h30) at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. Nataniël will perform original music including songs from several of his recent stage productions, such as Violet and Stone Shining, plus music from his latest album, Slow Tear. The show also includes soul, blues and jazz covers as well as stories and sketches in typical Nataniël-style. With the songs in English, his monologues will be in both English and Afrikaans. Nataniël has just released his new CD single, In Ev¹ry Star, a fully enhanced CD containing three music videos. He has also launched his website (www.nataniel.co.za) and his latest book will be in the shops by October. Nataniël shares the stage with musical director Rocco de Villiers (piano), Corné Dannhauser (bass) and Vinnie Henrico (drums). Costumes by award-winning designer, James Edward Moulder. CD¹s and books will be available at all performances. Nataniël’s Durban performances will be presented by Aldo Brincat. Book at Computicket.
