The Choir of the Universitas de la Valencia in Spain is currently touring South Africa and will be hosted by the KZN Youth Choir in a hour-long concert to be held on August 14 at 20h00 at Northlands Girls' High School Hall (corner Beachway and Cadogan Drive, Durban North).

Five Northlands girls and several Northlands old girls are part of the KZN Youth Choir, the reason why the school was asked to host the events.

Northlands Choir also took part in the newly created Hein de Villiers Choir Competition for KZN High School Choirs. Auditions took place earlier this year and some 17 schools entered their choirs to be assessed by Gauteng adjudicators Adolf Theron (founder and former conductor of the Pretoria University Choir) and Marius Pretorius, a specialist in Ladies Choirs and member of the SA Choral Society.

Choirs reaching the finals were Pinetown Girls and Pinetown Boys High, Mowat Park Girls High, Durban Girls College, St Mary's, Wykeham Collegiate and Northlands Girls. The winner was Wykeham, with Northlands Girls second and DGC and St Mary's tying in third position. This competition was created by Gerard du Toit (director of the KZN Youth Choir) to fill the gap which was left when the Director's Trophy Competition faded away.

Tickets R10 at the door.
