The popular 51-strong KZN Wind Band recently went to Vienna to take part in an international competition from which they emerged in second place. Added to this accolade, they took part in a mass concert given by 1,000 children in St Stephen’s Square in Vienna and gave a live performance for Radio Vienna.

They were also invited to appear at the United Nations building in the city, the first time a musical group of this nature has been invited to play for members of the diplomatic corps.

The tour, which was organised by Metro Travel, was funded by band members’ parents and supported by the National Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology as well as by the South African Embassy in Vienna.
