Friends of Music’s mini festival featuring South African artists who have achieved excellence in the international field, continues with the Trio Bon Espérance du Cap. Comprising Louis Zurnamer, Alison Lansdown and Liesl Stoltz, the group will give a piano, flute and cello recital on August 14 at 19h45 at the Durban Jewish Club.

The trio was formed in 2000 by these three musicians who all grew up in the Cape Peninsula, Liesl and Louis in Bellville and Alison in Kenilworth. They received various prizes in competitions and scholarships while studying in South Africa. At present Louis teaches music in London, whilst Alison and Liesl study in Salzburg and Paris respectively.

Last year during the European summer holidays the Trio Bon Espérance du Cap had various performances in and around the Cape. This year they will perform in Bellville, Stellenbosch, La Motte and also in East London, Port Elizabeth and Mossel Bay.

Their programme includes Bohuslav Martinu’s Trio for flute, piano and cello, Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Etudes-Tableaux for solo piano and Gabriel Pierné’s Resitative et Variation. Also performed will be Trios Gymnopedies for flute, cello and piano by Erik Satie (arranged by Michael Tuffin), Assobio a Jato for flute and cello (The Jet Whistle) by Heitor Villa Lobos, Stefans Grové’s Sielvoël and Carl Maria von Weber’s Trio in G minor, Op 63.
