The preservation and promotion of mbaqanga music to its present-day status in South Africa owes a lot to Simon Nkabinde. Nkabinde became a major figure in the music industry in the early 60’s with his group Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens.

The mbaqanga style of music has also achieved international recognition, thanks to this award-winning musician who died last week after a long illness. The music industry mourns his passing.
