As a consequence of receiving adverse internal audit reports in each of the past two years, the Council of The Playhouse Company, in terms of its duty as set down in the Cultural Institutions Act and the Public Finance Management Act, today launched a forensic investigation into the affairs of The Playhouse Company, to be conducted by the forensic division of KPMG.

Calling an all-staff meeting at The Playhouse in Durban today (Monday February 16), the Council issued Playhouse Company staff with letters informing them of the investigation, thus ensuring full transparency in taking this decisive action in the interests of safeguarding that the Playhouse Company is run along lines of full accountability, professional competence and sound corporate governance.

Staff members have been required to give full co-operation to the investigation and to provide KPMG full access to all company documents and information in their possession or under their control. All staff members have been urged to report any wrongful activity to the investigation team.

Playhouse staff members have been assured full confidentiality in assisting KPMG in carrying out their investigation effectively. A confidential hotline will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week catering for all relevant language groups.
