NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Young People for Change will present a Community Open Day creating HIV/AIDS awareness through music, dance, drama and poetry on March 15 at K Section Hall Kwa Mashu. Young People for Change (YPC), a newly founded Community Organisation supported by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, is a project that addresses the problem of HIV/AIDS through the performing arts in the township of Kwa Mashu. The organisation holds monthly HIV/AIDS Community Open Days and these events result from the six months HIV/AIDS and life skills training programme which involved about 120 youngsters from different sections of the township. This endeavour is intended to empower the youth towards effecting a positive change amongst their peers in the township and will culminate into a big community festival on Youth Day, June 16. The theme for the campaign is Lighten up for Positive Change. The show is open to the general public of K Section and is free of charge. More details from co-ordinator Sthe Khumalo on 031 304 0586 or 083 691 6962.
