NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. An exhibition of 34 works by the winners of Anglogold’s Riches of Africa competition will be shown at thee NSA Gallery on August 15. Among the 17 winners are Adam Bremner (overall winner), Khanyisile Ntombizonke Khoza and Kubendrie Asim Kumar who were all students at Technikon Natal at the time that they entered the competition. Adam Bremner won an all-expenses paid trip to Italy to attend the VicenzaOro 2 Fair Commenting on behalf of the judges, Alan Mair stated: “The collection has captivated the elegance of Africa and reflects its diversity. Designs include the use of innovative materials such as rubber, enamel and glass beads and manifests an imaginative use of textures in the finish of the gold. Pieces range from the delicate to the flamboyant, from the intricate to the bold.”
