Trevor Yates (aka Joeco the Clown) is a third time winner of the Magician of the Year Award. He received his award recently at a function where members of the South African Magical Society gathered for the annual President's dinner. The Rem Brickhill Trophy is awarded to the magician who performs the "best magical effect of the year."

The magical effect is judged by fellow magicians and not by the lay-person. This is a trophy that all the magicians covet because it is judged by their peers.

Trevor has been performing magic for all ages "from one to one hundred and one" at parties and functions for a number of years. He also does magic at trade shows and product launches.

The trophy was first presented to Brian Tarr in 1971 and has been awarded each year to the most outstanding magical effect. As the competition is closed to the public the magicians taking part and who have won the trophy are business people and professionals who perform magic as semi-professionals. The South African Magical Society has members from all walks of life. Doctors, lawyers, accountants, lecturers, local business persons and students in high school.

Trevor performs The Magic Dinner for One at a venue to be decided in December "Because the play, Dinner for One is only 30 minutes long, we want to add parlour magic for the first half and then the play after the interval" says Trevor. "James the butler will become a magician."
