NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Michelle Constant’s Saturday Wired is broadcast on SAfm 104-107 from 11h00 to 13h00. Tomorrow (March 3), listeners can hear her chatting to celebrated award winning jazz pianist Themba Mkhize. The musician will talk about growing up surrounded by music in the township of Umlazi, his days with Sakhile and winning the prestigious Daimler Chrysler Jazz Award. Also on the programme will be a visit behind the scenes at Gallo Records’ 75th birthday celebration and a cross-over to Cape Town for the latest news about Big Issue street magazine. Another guest on the programme will be artist and winner of last year’s ABSA Atelier Prize Brad Hammond who will discuss urban deconstruction, mall life and meditative anti-videos. Hip hop poet and MC Watkin Tudor Jones talks about his latest album and his band Max Normal. The programme will feature live SABC recordings, made especially for Saturday Wired of songs by Pietersburg-based singer guitarist Umanji. Played for the first time on radio in South Africa will be a track off Dave Matthews’ latest album Everyday. It's the title track, which features the talents of South African musician Vusi Mahlasela.
