Arthur Reed is well-known in Durban for his professional magic stage shows.

Lately, he has turned his talents to painting and making miniature instruments such as violins or cellos which he frames with tiny pieces of sheet music and quill pens to form an attractive work of art.

An engineer by trade, he has also channeled his skills into the field of repairing violins and was recently given the contract to care for violins belonging to Gelofte High School in Pinetown. "If there is anyone out there with an old instrument, in whatever shape, please contact me. I will fix it and see that it goes to a child who will use it," he says.

Arthur has now learned to play the violin himself and has found an affinity with Irish music which he intends to incorporate into his magic act. His studio is always open to the public but it is necessary to book an appointment first. Phone (031) 72-0076.
