Head of the Pietermaritzburg Tourism Association Simon Kerr was recently invited to the United Kingdom by the Welsh Tourism Board to conduct workshops aimed at assisting their local artists and crafters create a route similar to the Midlands Meander.

Simon Kerr, one of the first role players of the Midlands Meander, was surprised at how similar the scenery and size of the area in Wales is to the South African route. However, he considered that the quality of the arts and crafts offered on the Midlands Meander was of a much higher standard than their Welsh counterparts at present.
