Following a highly successful holiday season uShaka Marine World (uShaka), one of Durban’s foremost tourist attractions, has started the new year on a high note.

Since opening three years ago, The Park recorded its fifth best day on December 28 2006, when almost 9,500 visitors visited uShaka on that one day alone. The December holiday figures, which surpassed all expectations, are up by 6% year on year, with numbers in excess of 100,000 visiting the Park during December. In excess of 42,000 guests have already visited uShaka since the beginning of January 2007.

“It is clear that the addition of the Park’s newest attractions, the ‘Drop Zone’ water slide in Wet & Wild and the ‘Dangerous Creatures’ exhibit in Sea World, made a huge contribution to our visitor numbers during December,” says uShaka’s newly appointed chief operating officer Bongani Xaba.

“Although visitors came from far and wide, the majority of the Park’s visitors were from Gauteng,” says Xaba. “We are especially thrilled with the increase in numbers of visitors from KwaZulu-Natal this December. This is a clear indication of the fact that our own local tourists (including Durban residents) are making return visits to the Park on an increasing basis.”
