Chidambaram Pillay – better known as M S Roy – has been a well-known face in press and media circles in Durb an for many years. He passed away in Durban this week at the age of 71, after having been admitted to hospital for renal failure.

Having worked for the Sunday Times and Post, M S Roy had covered many high profile court cases during his career and until about two years ago had still continued to work after his retirement. He was respected for his work ethic, described by Post editor Brijlal Ramguthee as: “an old school photographer – not a clock watcher – and getting the best pictures is what mattered most to him.”

M S Roy’s links with the Durban press will live on as his daughter Taschica is a reporter with the Sunday Times.
