NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Martin White, former member of the cabaret group Deez M Beez, is now living in New Zealand in Nelson which is well-known for its arts and crafts community. Nelson is the home of World of Wearable Arts, a Cirque du Soleil type fashion extravaganza attracting many overseas participants. Amongst many other community arts activities, there is an annual Opera in the Park and Open Air Shakespeare Festival, both of which Martin has taken part in. “The enthusiastic and diverse arts environment was one of the features which attracted us to settle in Nelson,” says Martin. “The other is the fact that it enjoys the most hours of sunshine in New Zealand, considerably more than our previous home in Botha’s Hill! It is also a small manageable-sized city with no traffic problems and friendly people.” Carrying on in the vein of the Deez M Beez, he is “half” of a duo called Men in Hats which does a similar routine. Martin can be contacted on tel/fax (0064)-3-545-1305 or write to 15 Biggsburn Way, Todd Valley, Nelson RD1, 7071, New Zealand or e-mail: martinique@tasman.net
