NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The Mercury Durban Designer Collection celebrates its 26th year, at N-Shed, Passenger Terminal, Durban Harbour on August 18 and 19. The show has always been considered and respected by the fashion industry both locally and nationally. This event has become a melting pot of cultural fusion that has changed concepts of fashion as we perceive it as South Africans and is an insight into how South Africa has evolved over the 26 years. With the DDC’s commitment to uplifting and celebrating Durban, this year’s show will be sure to provide once again a new edge to fashion as we know it. The aim is to make this an entertainment event, rather than just another fashion show. As a platform for nurturing and growing new talent, the Durban Designer Collection has no rival. It has launched such great South African design stars as Gideon, Craig Native, Colleen Eitzen, Darkie, Terence Bray to name but a few. It was on the DDC platform that these creative forces began their careers and flourished. This year’s show will coincide with the showing of Durban’s top designers fresh off the SA Fashion Week. For more information call Alice Zejglic on 031 301 2777 during office hours. Bookings at Computicket
