Alyce Defty, well-known fashion design lecturer at Technikon Natal, now the Durban University of Technology, produced a publication titled The Fascinating Art of Creating Patterns.

The constant demand for the title led the institution to research the value of the book. Academics in the field of fashion have found no appropriate alternate title to replace this book from a teaching point.
