NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The Winter 2006 Range by Durban's design duo, the Holmes Brothers, was launched on May 4. Featuring 15 new items for men and women, the range was flanked by various items made in conjunction with the Umcebo Trust as part of their SA Fashion Week collaboration. Also on display were artworks by graphic designer Trevor Paul, from a series entitled Tales from the Shallow End. Selected artworks were printed on Holmes Brothers T-Shirts as part of a limited edition-range. "The launch went well and we had a fantastic response from the crowd," said Holmes Brothers founder, Laurie Holmes. Four pieces of the installation by Trevor Paul were sold 10 minutes before the launch started, and was an indication of the public's good reception of the items on display. Other elements on display included by Umcebo Trust were jewellery and chandeliers, which created a cohesive feel of eclecticism evident in the Holmes Brothers' work.
