On May 10, The Pietermaritzburg-based University Film Club's Thursday film will be The Longing of Veronika Voss, directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1982).

This is the second to last film made by Fassbinder, the most imaginative and innovative of the New German Cinema directors. Fassbinder borrows from Wilder's Sunset Boulevard to chart the final years of a once-famous actress whose decline into old age and dubious connection to the Nazi regime make her life an intriguing vehicle for the director's ongoing diagnosis of post-war German society.

Films are shown in the Centre for Visual Arts Lecture Theatre in Ridge Road, Pietermaritzburg, at 18h00. Safe parking is available.
