Marathon is a huge box-office smash in Korea with more than five million viewers. Audiences and critics have been praising it as one of the must-see Korean films of the year.

Action in Autism, in association with the Durban International Film Festival, will screen this must see film on autism on June 17 at 18h15 at The Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban.

Based on a true story, Marathon is a heart-warming story about a twenty-year-old autistic person (played by an excellent Cho Seung-Woo) whose one pleasure is running. As a young boy Cho-won often throws tantrums and harms himself.

His mother dedicates herself to training him as an athlete, and hires a coach to train him to run marathons but the only coach she can afford is a washed up loser whose best days are way behind him. The mother's dedication is more complex than it first appears and it is Cho-won who is forced to take a determined and admirable stand. Marathon promises an entertaining, excellent, well researched expose on autism.

Tickets cost R50 and part of the proceeds raised will be utilized by Action in Autism to provide much needed resources and fund programmes for parents and children with autism.
