The Pietermaritzburg University Film Club is to screen Les Enfants du Paradis, Marcel Carne's 1945 film, which features their "long film" for this semester.

Arguably one of the most romantic and poetic films ever made, it is set in the theatre district of Paris during the 1830s and 40s. The film has the scope and density of a great 19th century novel. It was made during the Nazi occupation of France in defiance of all the obstacles and prohibitions that those conditions entailed.

Les Enfants du Paradis will be screened on May 18 at 18h00 in the CVA Lecture Theatre, Ridge Road, Pietermaritzburg. Safe parking available.
